03-MAR-1943 The Beaufighters Got One
March 3, 1943 had been a busy day already for the airmen of the 5th Air Force on New Guinea. A massive strike in the morning by elements of the USAAF and RAAF had crippled and
disorganized the Japanese resupply convoy headed to Lae. After the return trip to Port Moresby, the Allied aircraft were refitted and sent out to finish the job. P-38s of the 39th Fighter Squadron encountered Japanese resistance while escorting RAAF Beaufighters from 30 Squadron.
